"I'm Batman"

This morning, S at So, I Was Thinkin'... wrote...

"There have been many actors playing Batman. West, Keaton, Kilmer,
Clooney, Bale, et. al....

Do we call them 'Batmen'? or 'Batmans'?"

This is an interesting question for a fanboy, seeing as how it's only been a week or so since the "Bruce Wayne" Batman of DC Comics was killed by Darkseid. Interesting, because Bruce's death is leading up to, what DC Comics is calling, The Battle for the Cowl.

Not to worry, though. Even if Bruce's utility belt is refitted for Jason Todd, a "can't quite fill the tights" Alfred Pennyworth, or a "miraculously healed so she can walk again" Barbara Gordon (which is what I slightly suspect is in store for my favorite former Batgirl), Bruce Wayne will be resurrected. Somehow.

That's what me and Polt at Polt's Palace believe, anyway. Right, Polt?

So, while we prepare for the entire Batman Family to fight to see who will take over the title of the superhero with no powers, kick-ass cars and a voice like Lionel Stander, let's see what happens when Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney and Bale Battle for the Cowl.

Pretty cool, huh? My only question is, "Who has time to do something like this?!?" Oy...

Batmen or Batmans?

Batman is a name so it doesn't change to Batmen. That could change the meaning:

If I said, "I saw 100 Batmen" you could think either 100 people dressed like Batman or 100 man/bat creatures.

I think the rule here is that you adjust the structure of the sentence and keep the name singular unless it's possessive because it would be better grammar not because Batmans is wrong. Just like you could say 100 Stephens.

raven - You're right! Batman without Bruce Wayne is like Bette Davis without a cigarette - - sure it COULD happen, but the overall package would be so much less enjoyable. That's why Bruce Wayne has to be resurrected. And will be. How DC Comics will do that will be interesting (and probably frustrating) to see.

sean - I think - - no, I don't think, I KNOW that I love you. Your comment is brilliant, well thought out and (I have to say this) was EXTREMELY hot to read. Seriously. Nothing turns me on like a man with a brain.

Because super-intelligent men are always kinky as Hell in bed!! :)

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

How will Bruce Wayne be ressurected? In the latest Nightwing, Ra's is tempting Nightwing about using a Lazarus Pit. That's one way right there.

But I hope Nightwing inherits the cowl. Although, I was rather dismayed to find out that after next month, they're canceling Birds Of Prey AND Robin! And I don't know how many others....are they gonna restart ALL the Bat-titles????

HUGS..

That was GREAT!!! I love Batman, and just about all DC Comics superheroes...hell I grew up on them. As for the comics, I kinda grew outta that after high school...sometimes I miss reading comics! Now for this clip-for me...there is only 1 true Batman in the movies....that was Michael Keaton as Batman! Christian Kane is brilliant as Batman, but my favorite will always be Michael Keaton!
