"Goddamn War"

At last nights Emmy Awards ceremony, FOX cut away from Sally Field's acceptance speech when she ended with...

"And let's face it, if the mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamn war in the first place"

Today on my iGoogle page, this popped up as one of my "Quotes of the Day"...

"Censorship, like charity, should begin at home; but, unlike charity, it should end there."
- Clare Booth Luce

Do you think FOX had a problem with the "goddamn" or with Ms. Fields' slight anti-war message?

While we're on the subject, can we all grow the fuck up and stop being scared of words?

And after that, can we Americans please stop being afraid if we see a little nipple during the Super Bowl or a nice, juicy cock and balls on a computer screen?

We don't seem to have any problem whatsoever showing peoples' brains being blown out of their heads or watching a killer of college students point his gun over and over into the camera after his death, taunting us with what he did to our loved ones.

Maybe that's the bridge. Maybe that's how we get them to accept the human body and all it's parts. Go with me here...

The next time someone is offended at seeing some guy's cock and balls on a screen, just tell them to think of his cock as the barrel of a gun. That should calm them down.

The sick fucks.

Updated - 5/17/07 - 5:20 PM: Here is the uncensored speech given by Ms. Sally Field.

Shirley Heezgay tells me that her speech aired uncensored in Canada.

Who wants to move there with me? I'm kinda not joking, folks.

Especially if Mitt Romney wins in '08.

I think it was the war comment. In Canada, her statement wasn't censored, and was aired as spoken.

Shirley Heezgay - Are you serious?!?! Ok, when can I move to Canada? Can I sleep on your couch for a few nights till I find a place of my own? Cause this country is getting ridiculous!

I'm still shaking my head over the fact that people got all worked up over that soppy, ham-fisted "peace" number from "So You Think You Can Dance" AND the fact that the creepy English judge felt compelled to apologize for it. There's always going to be a few nuts out there that will object to someone voicing an opinion, but there's no reason to kowtow to them. I remember reading (on BoingBoing, I think) that the Janet Jackson's nipple controversy sparked maybe three whole letters to the FCC -- and two of them were pretty much duplicates, sent from two different addresses. It's just a shame that conservative nutcase Michael Powell was able to use a trumped-up controversy to inspire the networks to be even more cowardly than usual. But I don't think this country's population is nearly as puritanical as either major party wants voters to believe. And I think if it wasn't for the war, voters would have flip-flopped back to favoring a Democratic administration already. Which is a long-winded way of saying I think things will get better, and not too long from now.

Blockade Boy - First off, I gotta say that I LOVE your new look!! Classy, butch and brilliant!

Secondly, I hope you're right that things will change soon. But I gotta tell ya, I kind of doubt that it's only a handful of puritans out there. I'm from the South where the thought of a nipple on tv is sacrilege, but war on tv is entertainment. It's terrifying.

But let's hope that it's your words that go right to God's ears and make them truths.

Thanks! I think my new look is pretty stylin'. *gambols, prances, and preens like a Lipizzaner stallion* I'm from Kansas, home of the breathtakingly backwards Senator Sam Brownback, plus I have super-conservative Southern parents who think Bill O'Reilly is just the cat's pajamas, so I can understand your frustration. I guess I'm just a hopeless optimist.

I'd be in Canada right now if it wasn't so cold in the winter.

Blockade Boy - Since you just posted a parody of COULD YOU USE ANY MONEY TODAY? from CALL ME MADAM, I know that you'll get this reference... Are you a COCKEYED OPTIMIST? And if so, teach me how to be one. :)

Whim - It can't be must colder than it is in Chicago. We'll just add some layers to out clothing and make due!

When I wrote my last comment I was this close to using the phrase "cockeyed optimist" but I managed to restrain myself. Anyway, "cockeyed" would have made me sound willfully naive, which I don't think I am. But yes, my brain is cluttered with musical theater references!

Blockade Boy - Any man whose "brain is cluttered with musical theatre references" is IMMEDIATELY my new best friend!! :)
