Looking at the Numbers

Today on THE VIEW, Rosie immediately began to discuss what she had said about Anna Nicole Smith just hours before her death. She handled it perfectly.

Then, she presented this... to put our celebrity obsession into perspective...

"Since (Anna Nicole Smith's) son Daniel died, which was three days after the birth of her daughter, there have been 10,461 stories of her on American television.

Since (his) death, there have been 482 American soldiers killed in this war."

It reminds me of the beginning of the AIDS crisis when Larry Kramer presented the fact that...

"The New York Times wrote 54 articles about the Tylenol poisoning scare of 1982 within a 3-month period, with 4 articles on the front page and there were 7 deaths from that horrific act.

During the first 19 months of the AIDS epidemic, the same paper wrote 7 articles, with only 1 appearing on the front page and by the end of those 19 months, there had been 891 reported cases."

The numbers don't lie.

I go out of town for a couple of days, and return to discover that people have started bashing Rosie? I constantly have to watch the idiots with which I share this "slightly soiled" country.

Rosie O. is a comic. To quote the famous gay author/sex raconteur Edmund White, "...for there is no way to be funny and not mean, but the laughter...neutralizes the sting."

And Stephen Rader's blog output is so overwhelming that I didn't realize I was posting the previous in answer to YESTERDAY'S blog. Please reference yesterday, mea culpa.

No "mea culpa" needed when you defending Rosie. Isn't she outstanding on this show? Love her or hate her, you DEFINITELY know where you stand with her.

And I personally love her!

I like 'tough ass' Rosie way better then the old minstrel Rosie.
