Four Thousand and Counting

This just in...

"BAGHDAD -- Four U.S. soldiers were killed when a bomb hit their vehicle in south Baghdad late Sunday, bringing the number of U.S. service members killed in the Iraq war to 4,000.

"The grim milestone came at a time when attacks against the U.S. military are ebbing and officials have claimed significant progress against Iraq's deadly insurgency and sectarian violence. It was reached about 10 p.m. on a day when more than 60 Iraqis were killed and dozens injured in attacks in Baghdad and north of the capital."

Four thousand of our nation's men and women are dead. And notice that, on a day when four of our soldiers are killed, 60 Iraqis lost their lives.

When was it the George said "Mission Accomplished?" Oh, that's right. He said that on April 30, 2003. Nearly five years ago.

Wow, "Mission Accomplished" and yet still, people - - Americans and Iraqis - - are dying every day. And we're worried about some governor who slept with a whore? America never ceases to amaze me.

Bingo! This paragraph needs to be on the side of every bus in every city in the country. Billboards, too.

People need to start worrying about the big stuff (like the war and the economy) instead of nit-picking and hen-pecking over minutae like visits to a prostitute. They'd be amazed at how often it goes on without their knowledge and no resulting catastrophe. They only get so het up over this because it's a welcome diversion away from the big problems, which they think they're powerless over...

This is just disgusting...with no end in sight. And this shrub of a man keeps giving smarmy speeches and the mindless sheeple bob their heads. He's ruined our country, our economy, our military, our pride. He has drained our very souls. When will he be impeached? Is it 2009 yet???

Did I ever tell you my brother's a marine? Sigh... He's still in training now, but every time I talk to him I'm asking out loud if he has word on where he's gonna be stationed, then praying that his answer isn't "over there." I hate this war.

Who cares about what's right and people dying when some politician is getting his pole polished by an escort.

...and that the "reported" american deaths.

it's actually more than that.

Stephen, apparently you need to be reminded that over 3,000 Americans were killed in just one day, September 11, 2001. Our brave American soldiers, airmen, and marines are over in the Middle East keeping another major terrorist attack from happening again. Say what you want about the President, but he has kept another vicious, murderous, attack (and saved countless lives--maybe even someone you know in Chicago) from taking place on American soil by engaging the terrorists and taking the war to them.

aaron, scooter, whim & shirley - Amen! I couldn't have said it better myself.

the joy - I hope and pray that your brother isn't stationed in Iraq. I'm extremely grateful that he signed up and joined the Marines, but I hope that he never has to see battle.

dollar - Apparently, you need to be reminded that those men flew planes into buildings BECAUSE of American actions BEFORE September 11, 2001. I was in the Middle East in 2000. Were you? I talked to the people over there and I heard their hatred of the American people for our support of the Israelis. I don't condone the terrorist attacks on 9/11, but as Ron Paul and others have said, they didn't happen in a vacuum. Our policy and our actions have created the hatred towards us, and instead of running around like cowboys with guns blazing, wouldn't it be better if we actually lived up to our Christian roots and tried to understand what others feel towards us, apologize for our actions and try to find a way to live in peace? Isn't an eye for an eye in the Old Testament?

And I don't believe for a second that George W. Bush or The Patriot Act kept other terrorist attacks from happening on American soil. We have given up some of our freedoms for a perceived sense of security. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Simply sickening. I hope like hell that this catastrophe of a war is the only thing people remember about the idiot currently in the oval office.

Perhaps you think an appology is necessary for standing up for freedom, liberty, justice, and human rights. But I don't.

Next time Iranian presidient Ahmenejad puts a gay person to death, I'll send him YOUR regrets.

mark - I think history will judge Dubya as the man who brought out country to its knees.

dollar - What the fuck are you talking about? Do you think that the only way you can stand up for freedom, liberty, justice and human rights is by killing "the bad guy" and waterboarding anyone with dark skin?

And what on earth does my saying that perhaps we should try to understand why people hate us so much have to do with the Iranian President putting gay people to death. Your mixing your stories, dear, and quite frankly I don't appreciate anyone being so rude and bitchy when you do so from behind an anonymous screen name.

You have your right to believe in Bush and his war and I have the right to believe that he lied to get us into war (which he did) and that there are now MORE terrorists plotting to kill MORE Americans than there were before 9/11 because of how horrifically we have handled international relations since that date.

And if we're so fucking protected from terrorists, how come we can't find Osama bin Laden? We have satellites that can see a fly on the ass of a cow anywhere in the world but we can't seem to find a man who is 6 feet, four inches tall and probably is in need of frequent dialysis because of kidney disease!

I'm tired of being made to feel like less of a patriot because I condemn the immoral actions of my President and his administration. I want the war to end now, I want my brothers and sisters home and safe and I want someone to come to the aid of our failing economy and health care system. I want America to be the great nation it was before George W. Bush.

the Joy, I can't imagine your angst. Good vibes are coming your way right now. I wish peace for you and your bro.

And how does Dick Cheney respond to questioning on the subject? He says that clearly President Bush is facing the biggest burden since he sent them there, and that we should remember that they volunteered anyway.

He needs a good fuck. Preferably with a long iron spike.

oh lord. i really hate it when these freaks start crying about 9/11. 9/11 didn't give anybody the right to invade and murder MORE people. the 4000 deaths that we've seen from this stupid war have ZERO to do with 9/11 and 100% to do with a nazi-like regime that we live under. what would it take for us to understand that being american doesn't mean that we have an implicit right to police the earth? does it mean that 9/11 was ok...NO. does it mean that a war was the best choice...HELL NO. So, dollar...go fuck yourself.

Dollar is a clueless twit. He's one of the few left that still believe W is a good leader and did the right thing. How pathetic.

The only thing more disgusting then this war is the fact that Bush and dirty dick Cheney have not been indicted for their war crimes and war profiteering. I really wish I could tell Bush to his face that he is the biggest ass hole this country has ever had as president.
Also don't waste your time on ass holes like "dollar". The very fact their profile is marked private says it all. If I were so dumb I wouldn't show my face either.

I have to say that comments focusing on the 3000 Americans who died on a single day is a pre-programmed, inflammatory statement that the govt loves to get people to accept a war.

Yes, 3000 (and then some) Americans died on a single day due to the actions of a handful of men.

Strangely, no one is seeing the similarity in the under-reported 4000 deaths of Americans who have been sent to death, also by a handful of greedy, soulless men.

As for finding Osama, I'm not so sure they don't already know where he is. They found one "enemy" hiding in a HOLE IN THE GROUND, but Osama is able to keep eluding them?

Silly kids, tricks are for devils.
