Falwell's Funeral

Well, not only is today my father and stepmother's wedding anniversary, which I completely forgot about until right now and it's too late to call them in Hilton Head...

...well not really, because where else would my father be at 11:45 p.m. on a vacation night than a bar drinking a scotch, but still, you just don't call people after 10:00 p.m. where I'm from... you just don't...

...but today was also the day that Jerry Falwell was buried, and I almost forgot to post this clip from REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER from last Friday's episode.

I was waiting for the day of the funeral to post it. It seemed appropriate. And I swear I did not mean that bitchy.

I'm sorry to say, Rev. Falwell's hate has been passed down to a new generation.

Earlier today this guy, Mark David Uhl, a first-year Liberty University student, was arrested because he had made explosive devices, which were found in his car, that he was going to use to stop protesters from disrupting Falwell's funeral.

If you think Liberty is in charge of pumping out bigoted, close-minded ignorami, you haven't been to Sneedville, Tennessee lately.

Lance - Sneedville? We lost Sneedville? East Tennessee's public television station is in Sneedville!! We got out just in the nick of time, didn't we? :)

Good post. Thanks for sharing the video.

And now let's all sing a chorus of "With God On Our Side"...

wizened wizard - Thank you for the kind words and for the perfect suggestion for us all to sing!

While this kid was a fan of Falwell, his target was the Westboro Baptist Church protestors. You know, the Rev. Fred Phelps cult. This poisonous crew actually called Falwell a friend of the gays. If that doesn't prove they're crazy, nothing will.

Well all I have to say is... that bombers hot as hell.

Tim - So, this guy thought that the Rev. Jerry Falwell's funeral - - a religious ceremony laying to rest the body of the leader of church - - he thought that THAT was the perfect time and place to BLOW UP another (albeit even more hate-filled) religious leader.

It just proves that the teachings of Jesus Christ are lost on so many of these defiantly right-wing Christians. They are more concerned with the Old Testament belief in vengenance and and "Eye for an eye" than in Grace and Forgiveness.

Thank you so much for the info.

Of course, it wouldn't have been much of a loss all the way 'round, really, would it? (Yes, I know--that's not very Christian of me. So what? I never claimed to be. :-))

Joey - Ok, I can't even begin to think about how many shades of wrong it is to say, "that bombers hot as hell"... but you are SO right! Those exact words did flood my mind when I saw his picture.

Oh dear Lord...

Do they allow same sex conjugal visits in prisons these days?

Should I be in therapy for even thinking that? :)

Aaron - Well, as Bill Maher says, we kind of get a freebie with regards to "speaking ill of the dead" when it comes to this particular person who made a career out of "speaking ill of the dead."
