Michael just called me to give me the news...
Reverend Jerry Falwell is dead
CNN reports...
The Rev. Jerry Falwell has died, a Liberty University executive said
Tuesday. He was 73. Earlier today, Ron Godwin, the executive vice president of Falwell's Liberty University, had said Falwell was found unresponsive around 10:45 a.m. and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Godwin said he was not sure what caused the collapse, but said Falwell had "a history of heart challenges."
"A history of heart challenges?!?!?!" That's putting it lightly.
This is the man who said...
"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."
This is the man who, after the tragedy of September 11th, said...
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"
This is the man who supported racial segregation, thought and said that...
"I do question the sincerity of people like the Reverend Martin Luther King"
That man is dead.
Won't you please join me in a rousing rendition of that old, gay spiritual...
"Ding! Dong! The Witch Is Dead!"

What's the point of me blogging if you're going to post the same sentiment ahead of me? Seriously, I almost went with the title "Ding Dong..." as well.
What are you doing today after work? Maybe we should go to a gay bar and lift a glass to the old bastard.
Mike - Raise a glass at a gay bar to celebrate the passing The Dark Lord Falwell? Absolutely. Especially if we can keep repeating the phrase, "Bottoms up."
I can't believe he lasted so long. He looked like shit. I never saw anybody with such grey skin, except for Clayface in the Batman cartoons...
(Isn't the love heartwarming? :-))
Aaron - The skin of Clayface, the mania of The Joker, the idiocy of Bat-Mite and the I.Q. of Bathound.
Yep. That's Jerry Falwell, alright.
I'm personally going to raise a glass to my Tinky Winky shrine and thank him/her for making me gay!
Jeanne - Amen, sister! Falwell called Tinky Winky gay just because he had a triangle on his chest and carried a purse.
I can only imagine what he would have called me if he saw certain pictures of me that float around the internet. :)
It was not a "purse," it was a magic bag. Tinky was just like a super hero, only he carried his stuff in a bag instead of on a belt. :o)
Jeanne - Wow. Ok. Snap. You just put me in my place with the whole Tinky Winky purse / "magic bag" thing.
You're so right. Magic bag. Utility Belt. Same thing.
Especially if you believe, as I do, that Batman is TOTALLY gay. I mean, if Bruce and Dick really do slide down "Bat Poles" to change into Batman and Robin, at some point in the clothes-changing, you've got two naked men sliding down poles.
That reminds me. IML is coming up...
Anonymous - I think I'm same in assuming that God, the benevolent God who brings light and peace and love, will definitely NOT be seeing Rev. Falwell today. I pity Satan, though. He has no idea what's coming.
hehehehehe......oh man, I could harldly wait to call you.
I'm having a cocktail tonight!!!!
Michael - Having A cocktail!?!! Just one?!? I'm having the entire contents of the back bar at Sidetrack tonight! Honey, this is Cinqo de Mayo for homosexuals. EVERYBODY CONGA!!!
"Bat Poles"...hee!
Joy to the world, Falwell is dead!
I can't wait until it comes out that he died with a hooker.
You know the sad part? The only place I know him from is the "The People vs Larry Flint". I wonder how he would feel to know that, for some people, that movie is his claim to fame. Tee hee.
yinyang - I think those HAVE to be the new lyrics to JOY TO THE WORLD. They have to be!!
Eric & Aaron - Yes and most definitely, YES!
Lance's Friend - How much do I love that your knowledge of this horrific man is from THAT MOVIE?!?!? You are the best!!! And you're right, Falwell would have hated that!
I'm sheltered.
Lance's Friend - Take me to your shelter! Please!! If there's no Jerry Falwell, I would LOVE it there! :)
"bottoms up". hee! you are one wickedly funny person.
psycho-therapis - "Wickedly funny" is the greatest compliment I could ever receive. Thank you!!!
As long as you don't mean it in some indirect reference to that crappy Stephen Schwartz musical, WICKED.
If only Bob Fosse were still alive to direct that show, lock Schwartz out of rehearsals and make it palatable to anyone who isn't a 14 year old girl or a 37 year old gay man.
How this 37 year old gay man resisted the harpy-like call of WICKED, I'll never know. But thank the good Lord, I did!!!
