Disgusting

I'm usually not one for telling people what to do.

That's bullshit, but at least I TRY to not tell people what to do.

Sure, I told those Clinton supporters who say that they will vote for McCain and not Obama out of spite that I would refer to them as "stupid fucks" for the next four years. But that's not "telling them what to do." That's telling them that if they do a stupid fucking thing that I will call them a "stupid fuck."

But after seeing this, all bets are off.

This is a button that was being sold at the Republican state convention at a booth hosted by Republicanmarket. This is disgusting.

Another button apparently said, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation." Again, disgusting.

So now, I'm going on record and saying that if you vote for McCain FOR ANY REASON, you are not only a "stupid fuck," you are also condoning a party that is racist, sexist and homophobic.

Sure, we've known these things about the Neo-Cons in the Republican Party for a long time, but when someone can create a button like this, sell it at a convention, AND HAVE PEOPLE BUY IT, the time for me to be civil is long gone.

And to anyone who might, for some ridiculous and hate-filled reason, actually OWN this button AND read this blog, please do me a favor, unhinge the pin in the back of that button and stick it right up your pathetic, fat ass.

Thanks to Bill in Exile.

I was truly shocked when I first saw that button. I'm sure the McCain campaign will working overtime to spin this the right way.

Absolutely. The problem is, most people who vote Republican are mighty proud of those qualities...and to swing from Democratic to Republican out of spite, they'd have to be too stupid and crazy to recognize your criticism.

Hi Stephen:

This button is certainly reprehensible and anyone in their right mind would deem it incredibly offensive.

I find it somewhat puzzling, however, that you would believe that this sort of sewer bilge would come exclusively from the right.

Either you are incredibly easy to manipulate or are extrememly naive to believe that gutter politics is one-sided.

Check out this example from a self-purported "anti-republican" political marketing company.

These buttons/magnets were widely sold and distributed at Democratic State Conventions/Party Events prior to Senator Obama clinching the nomination.

http://www.cafepress.com/buy/anti+republican/-/pv_design_prod/p_3061363.243695432/pNo_243695432/id_26821668/fpt____________________AX__d_________aX/opt_/c_666/pg_1

For those who do not wish to cut and paste the address into your browser, it is a professionally rendered button which reads:

Give al-Qaeda a chance: vote Barack Obama in 2008.

Oh, how I must imagine that the Democrats eagerly want the masses to blindly believe that they are the ones claiming the high ground this election cycle...but one only needs to examine their hands and discover the dirt under their razor-sharp claws.

OH HELL NO.

I see that and I think, "what is wrong with America?" and then...

i remember that Bush was voted for a second term.

i remember that people aren't too afraid to say impeachment but they are too afraid to make it happen.

i remember that the news media runs the show.

i remember that the US believed that buying and owning PEOPLE was perfectly acceptable.

i remember that the "people that matter" have just enough citizens fooled into believing that the government had NOTHING to do with 9/11.

i want a gay, black woman who smokes, who has an amputated leg because she had no choice in fighting in an illegal war to be the president.

and then i want all the people responsible for that horrible button to be arrested for uttering hate speech and inciting hatred.

This is so gross.

That's good for a small chuckle but Of course we will still call it The White House. Unless something major happens, Mr. Obama will be our NEW PRESIDENT. You can take that to the bank!

Amen to all of this, Stephen.
A little intro to Conflict Theory: when groups are separated for long periods of time with no interaction, they develop incompatible goals and values, leading to social conflict.

The Republicans have been left to themselves to intermarry and breed for so long that racism, homophobia, sexism, and a common disregard for the unfortunate have become highly regarded values, incompatible with our own.

I think it's time for a revolution.

dollar - I'll agree that "gutter politics" doesn't JUST come from the Right. But this particular button is inexcusable, hate-filled and horrific. And guess what? It came from the Right.

And please don't patronize me and/or my intelligence by saying that I am either "incredibly easy to manipulate" or "extremely naive." It pisses me off to be talked down to.

I am not easy to manipulate, nor am I naive. What I am is passionate about a subject, this subject. That button is horrific. As the al-Qaeda Democratic one. But I don't believe for a second that Barack Obama has or would ever lower himself to "gutter politics."

I'm not sure that there are very many Republicans who can make that claim.

I have to admit that I've missed coming back to the comments section on this blog because I enjoy when Stephen comes back around to comment on our comments. He hasn't been doing it much lately.... until now.

Dollar... stir that bee's nest!

I agree with Dollar in that both sides mud sling and it's unfortunate. My running idea is that Ghandi would make a great president, but he'd never get elected in the US... he's too clean. However, both sides have their darkness. It's just I think that the right's darkness (and the button ideas like "white house") will spur the other side more into action.

Great post Stephen. Dander up and pissed, but good post!

I agree with you 100% about free speech. I also believe that we should use free speech to call people "stupid fucks" when they deserve it.

That button is totally disgusting.

I am currently discussing with my niece who will be a first time voter about the election. Trying to explain to her that just because her parents are moronic republicans she does not have to be. Needless to say this is just one more thing my sister is pissed off at me for. But horrid gimmicks on the part of the republican party is making my job a little easier with her.
