"Look Out! Here Comes the Spider-Man!"

Warning to Any and All Theatre People Reading This Post: Please be seated.  And breathe.  Keep breathing.

With our economy sliding somewhere between the toilet and the septic tank, Julie Taymor's upcoming Spider-Man Musical - - which still sounds like an idea I had when I was 8 years old playing with my Mego Dolls - - currently has a budget of 40 million dollars.

Forty. Million. Dollars. For "Spider-Man: The Musical."

Hey Julie. Umm... Are you out of your fucking mind?!?

Even with Mel Brooks ticket prices, The Hilton Theatre (which is being eyed to house this mega-monstrosity) only has 1,821 seats.  The show would have to run FOR YEARS just to recoup its investment.

Sure, Wicked made back its investment (and then some), but that show attracts fags and 14 year old girls. Spider-Man will most likely attract fags and 14 to 54 year old fanboys.  Is there any chance of it succeeding?

It's sure to be a bomb! The Hilton Theatre is cursed.

I wouldn't write if off just yet--the 14-year-old fanboys have to turn 54 sometime. That gives her 40 years to run this sucker...

It does sound crazy -- but if it's any good, I think it has an audience. For example, when was the last time I left a comment to one of your posts involving musicals?

The problem is, since it seems they aren't going a "camp" route (e.g. Xanadu), for it to be any good, it will have to look amazing -- and for that to happen, it will cost major bucks. So to do this at all, it's in for a penny, in for a pound. Or more accurately £23,522,493 million.
