Hey, Chelsea Handler! You Need Miss Lola Rose!

Okay girls, I'm putting out "the word."

Does anyone have any connections at Chelsea Handler's show Chelsea Lately?

You see, the fabulous Miss Lola Rose has submitted a video to Chelsea's show in hopes that she will be a guest on Chelsea's round table. And I think you'll agree that if anyone needs to be on Chelsea Lately, it's Miss Lola Rose.

Her daughter, the equally fabulous Jill Abrams, sent me this video of outtakes from Miss Lola's audition tape. The more I see of Miss Lola Rose, the more I fall in love with her.

"If they think I'm worthy of the trash bin, so be it. I don't give a shit.
I have money. I live very well. They're not interested? So, kiss my ass."

That is the ONLY attitude to have before, during and after any audition. Miss Lola Rose, I adore you! Best of luck with your audition tape.

Conrad Veidt: Inspiration for The Joker

Who'd have thought that the Chicago Tribune could tell me something about comic books that I didn't know?

A fanboy at a comic con? Yes.

The Chicago Tribune?
Who'da thunk it?

In a photo spread on The Joker, I learned that the Clown Prince of Crime was inspired by the lead character Gwynplaine (played by Conrad Veidt) in the 1928 film The Man Who Laughs based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo.

Heath Ledgers's Joker looks frightening as Hell, but as you can see from this pic, Conrad Veidt's Gwynplaine, with his white skin, slicked back hair, angular face and maniacal smile, really IS The Joker.

And I love it!

Incidentally, Mr. Veidt also played Major Heinrich Strasser in Casasblanca, my favorite movie, so he's sort of the connection between my love of old movies and my love of comic books.

What a career. A major role in Casablanca. The inspiration for The Joker...

If he was still alive, I would TOTALLY date him. Seeing as how I'm "easy" - - Easy like Sunday morning - - that's not saying much, but still...

15

I got tagged with 15 by Shirley Heezgay.

Yeah, I know. I wish I was talking about a unit of measure, too. This, however is a meme. Which is almost as fun. Not as filling, but almost as fun. (Yeah, I said it.)

What did you want to be when you 'grew up?'

I honestly could never imagine myself as an adult when I was a child. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought that I would die before I became a man. So much for homosexual intuition.

Still, I always imagined myself as a performer. Actor, singer - - anything on a stage entertaining people.

And if I could entertain people while sharing a stage with Leif Garrett, so much the better.

What are you now?
To quote Harvey Fierstein from Torch Song Trilogy, "I am an entertainer. Or what's left of one."

What fictional character did you identify with as a child?
Steve Austin. Definitely Steve Austin. The Six Million Dollar Man.

Partially because we shared the same name, partially because he was given those bionics to be "better, stronger, faster," but mainly because Lee Majors looked hot as Hell in that red tracksuit

How about now?
I'm going to go with The Midnighter, because not only is he gay, has a HOT husband, Apollo and wears black all the time, but he also can predict anyones' moves against him so that can almost never be beaten in a fight and he rips people's heads off. Literally.

He's one fag you don't want to fuck with.

What is your 'Gay Pride' Song?
Don't have one.

But if I must have one, just choose any track from Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall. The best live album ever recorded. Period.

What is your drag song (we ALL have one)?
See the question above.

Earliest memory?
Telling my parents that "God screwed up and put me in a little boy's body." Cause I liked girl things. I was four.

Memory you'd like to forget?
My father yelling at me to "Stop running like a girl."

If you ran for a seat in political office, what would be your platform(s)?
The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. In all things. With all people.

I wouldn't last a day in politics.

Winehouse. Want her to succeed or are you over her?
Have her try to sing any song from Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall. Live. If she get through it without belching or hitting her crack pipe, then I'm all for her.

The first person you thought you loved?
Tony, the boy who drove a Nissan truck and worked at a Quik-E-Mart. I was 18, neither of us had our own place, so we would pool our money and get a room at the Motel 6 and stay there until I had to be back at home for my curfew. Good times.

The first person you actually loved?
Pon. Definitely Pon. The Man That Got Away.

The person you love now?
Persons. My family and friends. All of them.

If you could be, do, have, own, or possess anything you wanted, what would it be?
Wealthy enough to travel and give my family and friends everything that they need to be happy and content in their lives.

Even if you are in love with someone right now, who are you/could be crushing on right now?
The boy in Florida. I have a severe crush on him right now. He knows who he is. I've told him.

Thanks for the tag, Shirley. I rarely tag people for memes, but if you play, let me know.

And if you want the other kind of 15, well there's this guy I used to "know"...

Fratboy Friday

A late-in-the-day (because my internet connection at work is STILL not working) edition of Fratboy Friday...

BOYS IN CAPS

That's a tennis court behind him but the sign says golf.

Jeans for tennis? Not likely, so he's a golfer? Is this what golfers wear these days?

Is this what golfers LOOK LIKE these days?

Are golfers the new swimmers?

(And me without a driver. Story of my life)

I can just see his Manhunt profile now...

"Early 20's, 5'10", 150, 8 cut, dark hair & eyes, toned,
smooth golfers body seeks same. Under par only. Birdies a plus!"

****

SAGGERS

Sure, he's attractive but I keep thinking of something Larry David once said...

"You know who wear sunglasses inside? Blind people and assholes."

****

MOONERS

Sand in your swimsuit - - there really is no other way to rinse it all out, is there?

And if there is, don't tell him! Keep your mouth shut and enjoy the view.

****

DAMN, I WAS SO DRUNK LAST NIGHT

When alcohol consumption turns Foosball into a HIGHLY erotic game between you and your frat brother, to the point that you're both making those pseudo-sex faces that are half erotic and half Disney's Goofy by way of Corky from Life Goes On, it should tell you something.

It should tell you that you're only hours away from more, shall we say, hands-on games like "Mine Is Bigger Than Yours (I'll Show You. Wanna See? Well, I'll Show You Anyway)"...

...Which inevitably leads to that popular frat game "Show Me How You Masturbate! Using My Penis!" (otherwise known as "That's Not the Clutch, But Don't Stop, Keep Shifting!")...

...And after the Goldschlager kicks in, they just might play one of my all time favorite games, "Brotherly Tea Bagging."

I never noticed it before, but if you used the wrist action needed for competitive Foosball and applied it to... other areas... Hey, where's that Goldschlager?

After Today, I Need Charles Pierce as Mae West! STAT!

Today has been a difficult and slightly depressing day, and I need a laugh.

I started the morning with a performance of ALADDIN...

...which wasn't bad, but I don't think that painting your face blue, pulling around a carpet stapled to a wheeled platform and pretending that it's "flying," and singing any note above Bea Arthur's range any time before noon is quite what Thespis had in mind when he stepped from the chorus and created "theatre"...

.
..If he'd known that this was where it was going, he'd have stayed in the chorus. Trust me...

...and after the play, I went to my office and discovered that my computer wouldn't - - not couldn't, but wouldn't - - access the internet. I tried all the standard techniques / tricks to fix the problem but nothing would work, so instead of making a dent in my To Do List, I played "Uneducated, Redneck I.T. Guy." With myself. It wasn't fun. At all.

And right before I left work, my mother called to tell me that her employer has changed health insurance policies and under the new policy, she will no longer have a co-pay, but she will have a $2,000 deductible. My mother's salary is very small, so this was too much for her. My brother and I will do everything we can to help her with expenses, but my mother's initial response was that she would no longer see her doctor. At all.

My mother is diabetic. Not seeing a doctor regular checkups is simply not an option. This new insurance policy is basically destroying her spirit, her health and the last of what was left of her "job satisfaction."

And hearing my mother so upset preys on my guilt. My guilt for not living near my family, for not being nearby to see her on a more regular basis, for leaving town and pursuing my goals, my life. Needless to say, after I spoke with my mother, I was depressed.

Thankfully, I had a meeting with Karen Bronson and Doug, Mark and Debbie to rehearse their upcoming Season of Concern cabaret benefit.

Seeing them, laughing with them and singing with them make me feel so much better.

And after discussing this clip with Karen on the ride back home, I felt it the perfect way for me to laugh my way out of a difficult day.

I've talked about Charles Pierce before when I posted the videos of his brilliant Bette Davis impersonation, and these clips are from the same concert. Only this time he tackles Mae West. And his Mae is just like his Bette - - pure comic genius.

"I woke up in a cow pasture outside of town. There was a bull chasing me. I was tired, so I ran."

It's funny because it's true. Well, for me anyway...

Windy City Queercast: Southern Belles

I'm back on the Windy City Queercast this week.

It's episode 224...

...and I have BEGGED Amy to put me on at least one minute of episode 227, just so I can do my best Jackée Harry impersonation and say, "Hello, Meh-reeeeeee"...

...and the episode is entitled Southern Belles Are Back!

I would love to be a Southern Belle. I'm afraid I'm a little too "redneck white trash" to actually BE a Southern Belle.

But I aspire to be a Southern Belle. I actually aspire to be Julia Sugarbaker by way of Dixie Carter.

To be a Southern Belle would be nice, but to be a Southern Belle with a strong opinion who speaks her mind would be heaven. Sheer heaven.

I mean, take one look at this clip and tell me you don't want to be "Julia: The Terminator."

"I find you rude, lazy, horny and dumb."

Super Tuesday

Over the last few months, I have collected a lot of superhero-themed pictures.

These aren't scans from comic books (though I have tons of those) and they're not drawn; these are real people either in costume (or coming out of costume, as some of them, happily, are) or real people with superhero symbol tattoos.

So, in addition to my usual TMI Tuesday posts, I will post one of these pictures every Tuesday under the title, Super Tuesday.

Get it? Superheroes. On Tuesday. Super Tuesday. I'll just stop...

This boy is the perfect choice for the first Super Tuesday post.

Wearing nothin' but a jockstrap and a Superman tat.

Now, that's what I call the mutt's nuts.

TMI Tuesday

A Seven Deadly Sins edition of TMI Tuesday...

1. LUST: Besides your current Significant Other who do you lust for or have you lusted for?

What's this "my Significant Other" crap? Oh, you're talking about my cock.

I've heard "Big" and "Huge" and "Oh, My God, It's Like a Fat Baby's Arm" but never "Significant." That's a new one. Thank you!

Hmmm... The first man that popped into my head was Shane Rollins, the porn star that I watched on Pride Day...

...not in the Pride Parade, on the tv in the backroom of The Cell Block...

...but someone anonymously commented on my post about this year's Pride Parade that Shane "got married, made a baby and retired."

Shane, say it isn't so!

Maybe it's the effect of the Barbara Cook concert last night...

...Which was INCREDIBLE, by the way, except for the presence of my ex, "The Skank" in the audience. When is that doctor in the burbs going to fulfill that contract I made with him and put that pufferfish poison to good use?!?...

...but Shane, with regards to your alleged marriage, child and the end of your porn career, I feel the need to quote Sondheim to you. Shane... baby...

"You said you loved me
Or were you just being kind
Or am I losing my mind?"

Yeah, I know the answer. I'm losing my mind. Lost it long ago. But still, I want me more of that Rollins boy.

2. GLUTTONY: What food brings out your inner glutton?

I've said this so many times in TMI Tuesday answers that it's probably obvious, but I am a SEVERE glutton for Cold Stone Creamery Cake Batter Ice Cream.

Mixed with Oreos and graham cracker pie crust. In a plain waffle bowl.

"Love It" size. Not "Gotta Have It" size. I don't want to get too carried away.

3. GREED: What are you greedy for?

More money. Aren't we all?

I want more money so that I won't have to work, I can travel when I want, visit family and friends when I want, pursue all the artistic dreams that I have and give all my loved ones everything their hearts desire.

With that definition of greedy, greed IS good. Right Gordon?

4. SLOTH: What is your plan for an ideal day of sloth?

Let's just say that I spent one of my days during this past holiday weekend with a certain sexy gentleman and one of the words you could use to describe our time together was "slothful."

Lazyin' about nekkid all day long and up to no good. Ain't nothin' better than that.

5. WRATH: Describe a time that you let out a can of whoop ass on someone.

Oh, why not. I'll tell it.

When I was with my ex, "The Skank," I found out rather haphazardly that he was hooking up with random strangers from online chat sites and letting them come into his apartment where they would find him blindfolded, face down, ass up in his bed. He would then let them fuck him without a condom so that they could shoot their loads deep inside of him.

Now, when we first started dating, I said to him that I wanted to keep our relationship open so that we could both have sex with other people as long as we were both safe and we both were honest about what we had done and who we had done it with. He raged against this and said that he wanted monogamy or nothing else. The very next day, he changed his mind and said to me, "I'm not going to sleep around, but if you want to, that's fine, I just never want to hear about it."

I stupidly allowed those to be the ground rules for this new relationship.

So, when I found out that, not only was he sleeping around, but he was also being so unsafe that he was practically asking for HIV to come into his body and set up shop, I was furious.

I created a new online profile, found him online one day and we started chatting. He had no idea it was me and it didn't take long at all for him to invite me over to shoot my load up his ass.

I drove over to his apartment and was buzzed in. I found him blindfolded, face down, ass up in his bed and I did what all the others had done. I fucked him and shot my load inside of him.

Then I left his apartment, got into my car and called him on my cell phone.

When he answered, I said, "Hey baby. Was that good for you?"

That's all it took for him to realize that I was the guy who had just fucked him. He became hysterical, crying uncontrollably. How's that for "Wrathful Can of Whoop Ass?"

Idiot that I am, however, I continued to date the motherfucker for many, many more months.

Where IS that guy with the pufferfish poison?!?

6. ENVY: Who or what do you envy? Why?

Couples. I honestly envy two people in love.

Because I really want to find "Him." I'm ready for "Him."

7. PRIDE: Have you ever had to swallow your pride? What are you proud of?

"Swallow my pride" is such a funny phrase to me. Something about "Gay Pride" and "Swallowing" just makes me giggle.

I guess I learned to swallow my pride years ago when I took a new job with a considerable pay cut that brought my annual income to just above poverty level. No exaggeration.

Before that, I never, ever said yes when someone offered to buy me a drink in a bar. Not to friends, not to future "Mr. Right Now's," nobody. But something about not having any money helped me realize that when people give to others, they give because they want to give. Because they enjoy giving. Even something as simple as a cocktail.

And learning to swallow your pride (again, I'm giggling) and accept another person's gift, with full appreciation for the giving, is part of growing up.

It was part of my growing up, anyway

Barbara Cook at Ravinia Tonight!

Tonight, I am going to see Barbara Cook in the Martin Theatre at Ravinia.

Being a musical theatre fag, I am beside myself.

For those of you that don't know the difference between a "Soundtrack" and an "Original Cast Recording" - - and yes, Virginia, there IS a difference - - Ms. Cook is musical theatre, operetta and concert stage royalty.

She originated the role of Marian the Librarian in The Music Man.

She originated the role of Amalia Balash in She Loves Me.

She originated the role of Cunegonde in Candide.

In Candide, she introduced the song Glitter and Be Gay. One of my theme songs.

For the record, some of my other theme songs are...

1) Peggy Lee's Is That All There Is? which describes those guys carrying a baby gherkin who have the nerve to ask if they're hurting me

2) Sondheim's Another Hundred People which describes my "dating" life

3) Loretta Lynn's Fist City for the obvious reason. And if it's not obvious to you, you really don't want to know. Trust me on this one. You probably don't.

Tonight is going to be amazing. I'm sure of it. I very much hope that Ms. Cook will sing Sondheim's In Buddy's Eyes this evening. As you can see from the video, Barbara Cook understands the song and sings it like no one else on the planet. Period.

For an added treat, be sure to watch for Elaine Stritch at about the 2:09 point in the clip.

Barbara Cook is rehearsing her song, surrounded by actors and actresses and the music that she is producing is angelic. It stops the room cold. Nobody moves.

Except Stritch. She's fishing through her bag looking for a cigarette. She finally finds one and then proceeds to change her shoes. For awhile. Elaine pays more attention to her own feet than to Cook and I love every second of it.

You may not find it funny, but to me it's pure Stritch. Even without screaming one note, she's hysterical.

My New Favorite Caption Contest #26

Since we've moved into July, I think it's time - - and actually it's way past time - - for me to choose a winner for the #25 Caption Contest.

Then again, it was way past time for someone to throw a bucket of water on Jesse Helms to make him melt away and THAT just happened this holiday weekend too. So, I'm on time. Relatively.

This time, I have to award my Favorite Caption to cb from The Mangina Monologues. If you don't read his blog, you are truly missing out. This man is not only funny, he's sexy. And his " Bastard Li'lComix" are too hilarious not to be shared with the world.

Here's cb's winning caption...

"Does this towel make my canker sore look fat?"

I love it when they're "Big and Stupid" like Pouty-Lipped Towel Boy here.

He probably actually said that. Verbatim. Well done, cb!

For the current Caption Contest, this boy's not really big, and I don't think he's stupid, but then again Arbor Day was months ago, so I have no friggin' clue what he's doing...

...but I have to say that this is the first time I've ever been jealous of a tree. Just sayin'...

Give the boy a caption. And my phone number. Deadline for possible captions is this Friday, July 11th at 5:00 p.m. (CST)

Fratboy Friday

A July 4th edition of Fratboy Friday...

BOYS IN CAPS

Whether you celebrate this holiday at home...

(and like this gentleman, will spend the day working on your Chris Crocker impersonation)

****

SAGGERS

...or hitchhiking across this great nation of ours...

(Why don't the hitchhikers I see when I'm driving look more like this guy
and less like the 3rd shift cook at the Waffle House?)

****

MOONERS

...or hanging out with friends at the lake...

(Pun not intended, believe it or not)

****

DAMN, I WAS SO DRUNK LAST NIGHT

...or hitting the beer early at a picnic so that you can blame the alcohol
when you try out some of the things you saw at last weekend's Pride Parade
on Mr. "I'm Shirtless 24/7 Like My Idol McConaughey"...

Happy Independence Day!

And please know that Turner Classic Movies is playing the musical 1776 tonight at 10:00 p.m.

Before I saw that film, I had no idea that the real John Adams sounded exactly like the voice of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider.

Do you think Thomas Jefferson sounded like The Hoff?

We Have to Laugh to Keep from Crying

Once again, The Onion has done. This may just be their best video to date.

Bush Tours America To Survey Damage Caused By His Disastrous Presidency

This now ties with my favorite Bush video ever of Little Richard interprets one of Dubya's speeches.

These are both brilliant. But then again, with such an inane, morally corrupt President like George W., pointing out the absurdity and foolishness of his administration is sort of like shooting fish in a barrel.

If only G. W. was actually a fish in a barrel. I wouldn't shoot him. I'd just take him out, watch him flop around until he stopped moving and then I would piss on him.

Not to revive him. Just cause it would make me feel REALLY good to do to him what he's been doing to the country, the economy and the Constitution for the last 8 years.

"You've Changed Things."

I've been searching around YouTube for the latest Dark Knight trailer...

...one that, near the end of the trailer, Christian Bale has his back to the camera and takes his shirt off...

...and to quote The Countess DeLave from The Women...

"Have you seen the play of his muscles?
Musical. MUSICAL!"

And though I can't find THAT clip - - and believe me, I will post it when I do!! - - I did find this parody of the first Dark Knight trailer. It's an Evil Iguana Production and if you know this trailer as well as I do, you are going to LOVE this parody...

Investigator: "How many pockets does he have?"

Commissioner Gordon: "It wasn't all in his pockets."

Friggin' hilarious!

"Let's Put A Smile On That Face"

Yet another amazingly kick-ass poster for The Dark Knight.

Can any other movie this summer - - or in any summer in recent memory - - even touch the superb marketing that has been given to this movie?

I haven't even seen The Incredible Hulk yet. The big green guy never was one of my favorites. Not even the 70's tv show.

Bill Bixby turning into a green Lou Ferrigno? Meh.

Bill Bixby watching Ray Walston grow antennas out of his head? Oh, Hell yeah! Bring it on!

But back to this poster. It's finally July. Let the countdown to the midnight first showing of The Dark Knight begin!

Thanks to Newsarama for the new poster!

Imagine Bruce Wayne with Three Wards. All Named Dick.

Seduced by the New... just posted this picture from Dynamite Comics hit comic miniseries, Project Superpowers.

The book focuses on heroes from The Golden Age who vanished just after World War II and have now returned.

I love this series. The art by Alex Ross is, as always superb.

And I love Golden Age superheroes. What's not to love?

The Flame
? Big Blue & Sparky?

And is there anything gayer than that Fabio lookalike named Samson with his boy sidekick, David?!?

Yes. There is. Check out V-Man with his V-Boys. Seduction of the Innocent, indeed.

TMI Tuesday

A rather serious marriage-themed TMI Tuesday...

1. Do you believe in marriage?

Absolutely. It's hard for me to find the right relationship, however, because of my parent's marriage. They loved each other at one time, but I mainly remember the fights. The almost daily fights.

When you're a child in a family where everyone outside of your home thinks you live the perfect "Leave it to Beaver" life, but everyone in the family knows that the second the front door closes, the masks come off and the screaming begins, it's hard to let anybody in.

And just my luck (or just my pattern), the last person that I let into my life pulled me into a relationship where I fought, screamed & yelled just like my parents.

The next person that I let into my life will be the first person I will ever consider marrying. And if I marry them, they will be the last face that I see before I die.

I'm the child of a divorce. I lived through "That's Mine, This Is Yours" when I was 12. I refuse to put myself through that ever again.

2. What is marriage to you?

Something I would like to be in. Something that seems rather unattainable at the present time, regardless of it's legal or illegal status for homosexuals.

3. If you are married, why did you do it? If you are not, why have you not married?

I'm not married because I haven't met the right man yet.

What's happening with these questions this week? When did I become Bobby in Company?

4. Do you believe in divorce?

Yes. My parent's divorce was one of the best and worst things that ever happened to me.

The best because they finally stopped hurting each other and therefore stopped indirectly hurting me and my brother. The worst because their divorce - - but more so, their entire relationship and the way that it ended - - affects me and my brother in our actions, our relationships, how much we trust others, etc.

I really hate being the child of divorced parents during the holidays. I'm 38 years old and I never feel that I'm giving enough time to either parent because if I wake up on Christmas morning with one of them, I'm not with the other one. No matter how much I give of myself, it can never be enough. And that is frustrating and sad at times.

5. If you are divorced, why did you do it? If you have not, are there certain circumstances under which you would agree to a divorce?

Let me just say that if/when I meet the man that I will marry, he needs to know that there will be no divorce. If he wants to leave, that's fine. But he'll have to leave this earth because leaving me ain't gonna happen.

We made a promise to God, baby, so unless you want to see Him soon, you better keep your promise. Hell hath no fury like a queen divorced.

Now, we can live together and/or maintain whatever kind of relationship we want (open, closed, "Take a Number and We'll Serve You," etc.) and then, if he wants to leave me, fine. I would rather someone who wants to be away from me be away from me than force them to be with me.

But if we get married, you're in it for the long haul, pal. I will not be The Gay Divorce.

Bonus (as in optional): Do you believe that same sex marriages are a threat to traditional marriages?

As if "traditional marriage" can be damaged any more than it already has been by "traditional couples."

I will say this, and I know that some gay people won't agree with me: Asking for Gay Marriage right now is too much. Asking for Civil Unions? Fine. Gay Marriage? Too much.

The word "marriage" is too attached and ingrained in religion for conservatives and/or fundamentalists to treat this issue with any logic or a level head. But I do believe that gays and lesbians asking for our relationships to be legally equal to the marriages of straight people would be accepted by the majority of the population.

Asking for a "Civil Union" doesn't necessarily bring to mind images of church and pastors reading sections of the Bible. "Marriage" does. And Gay Marriage will come, but this is one issue for gays and lesbians where we need to take slow, small steps towards our goal.

This is one we can't win through shouting. This is one - - like many others as well - - that we can only win through being.

Fellini Pride Parade

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

"You're brother's dead. Keep dancing."

The trailer for the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, was released today!

You might hate the title or dislike a Bond that's blonde, but you know that Casino Royale was one of the best, if not THE best, Bond movies ever made, so watch the trailer.

And be prepared to pause the video at the 1:35 mark.

Is it paused at the 1:35 mark? It is?

You're welcome.

P.S. Anyone know what Bond movie the title of this post is from? And no, Derek, you can't tell them!

"Words, words, words."

I have a little crush on the Theatre Editor from Time Out Chicago, Christopher Piatt.

His review of Rebecca Gilman's version of A Doll's House - - well, the one sentence review he gave me at Sidetrack right after he had attended the Press Opening - - is still to this day one of the funniest things I have ever heard in my life.

I've had a little crush on him since before there was a Time Out Chicago. Since before I knew he was a critic.

A certain blogger friend and I used to see Christopher at Sidetrack and pathetically flirt with him for months until one night, when we asked him what he did and he told us he was a theatre critic. We honestly didn't know he was a critic but I still felt like a whore for coming onto him. A whore in a good way, though

And as if he wasn't cute and funny and brilliant enough, it's articles and posts like this that really seal the deal. I agree with Christopher 100% on this issue...

"As has been reported, the outdoor production of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens’s Ragtime that was supposed to play Wilmette’s Gillson Park has been scuttled because organizers were nervous about the inclusion of what responsible parties will only refer to as “the n-word.” The musical, based on E.L. Doctorow’s novel (originally staged by Steppenwolf’s Frank Galati), takes place in early 20th-century New England, and details, among other things, the woeful mistreatment and violent retaliation of the first generation of free-born African Americans. So, naturally, “the n-word” is in there.

"Cancelled because some P.C. parties feared the production’s amplification system would blast the offending word throughout the land, the Wilmette Ragtime is a poster child for hair-trigger liberalism run so far amuck it’s become unrecognizable. Music Theatre International, the licensing company that handles the rights to the material, rightfully refused to let the producers change the lyrics to something more innocuous.

"I’ve no doubt that the well-intentioned cultural programmers of the Wilmette Park District believed they were making the most pragmatic move when the show was axed, but Wilmette, a suburb heretofore unknown to most of the American theater world, just became the place where it was assumed the population couldn’t handle overhearing the lyrics of a Broadway musical. Whether or not this decision reflects the actual climate of the place won’t be a detail anyone considers, if the national media attention is any indication."

"The n-word" "The f-word." What are we? In the 2nd grade?!?

I've said this before on this blog - - words are words. The only power a word has is the power we give to that word. Plain and simple.

So tomorrow, if you see me watching the Gay Pride Parade, come give me a hug, pat me on the ass and say...

"Happy Gay Pride Day, you big fag!"

Nothing would make me happier.

Miss Lola Rose

I can't think of a better way to begin Pride Weekend than with this video by Jill Abrams featuring my favorite YouTube star, Miss Lola Rose.

As many of you know, Miss Lola Rose's video where she discussed her two gay children was removed by YouTube for "inappropriate content" or some such idiocy. She discusses the video's removal, how it was put back on to YouTube and Gay Pride in general.

Thanks Jill and Miss Lola Rose. Happy Gay Pride.

P.S. I think I have to have a t-shirt that simply says...

"Is there any more cheese?"
