Well, Lyle is open and I actually remembered all of my lines. This is a much greater accomplishment than it used to be.
That was the good part of my opening performance yesterday.
The bad part of my performance was opening a prop book that I use on stage - - a collection of plays - - and turning directly to the title page of "The Scottish Play," otherwise known by normal people and non-superstitious theatre folk as Macbeth.
Whether or not a mere mention of the title of that play in a theatre brings about bad luck (many believe the play is cursed), I can report that, not one minute after reading that title, balls were dripped (literally), my punchlines were met with crickets and after one of my lightening fast costume changes, I walked onto the stage wearing the hat, jacket, vest and shirt belonging to one of my characters and the pants from one of my OTHER characters.But the audience really enjoyed the play and lucky for me, there were no critics present. I'm not quite sure where Ben Brantley WAS yesterday, but he most certainly was not anywhere near Morse and Glenwood.
But today is a new day, it's the start of a new week and things are already looking up because the first full trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT has finally been released. And I love it!
What a difference a day makes.

I don't care WHAT pants you wear, but I'm a LITTLE superstitious about The Scottish Play, although I think a lot of mishaps tend to be self-fulfilling prophecies. I should lend you one of my "Best Plays Of..." volumes that I got at a library sale once, to use as a prop book. I have 1969-70 and 1970-71. (Is "Company" considered bad luck?)
Aaron - It can't be a coincidence that just this weekend, I referred to myself as "Dean Jones" and my understudy Rus Rainear as "Larry Kert." Seems like COMPANY is hovering around our little production of LYLE. I wonder if Stritch ever played one of those Scottish Play witches? Stritch, Bea Arthur and Lionel Stander. That's how I would cast it.
I don't think she ever played a MacBeth witch. Beth Howland might have, though...all she'd need is messier hair and a few lines drawn in--she already had those spooky eyes.
Aaron - Now, THERE's your witch triumvirate! Alice, Flo and Vera!!!! And the big "Mac Daddy" could be Mel! I love this idea!!!

Too funny about the wrong pants. Is that the costume change you told me about where you have about 3 lines to change into a complete new costume?

Karen - Actually, this was the costume change directly AFTER the 3 line costume change. Oy...
I've never seen the BLACK ADDER Scottish Play episode. Now, I have to!!
