True Colors 1 - The Dresden Dolls

Yesterday, I received an incredible gift from my friend Eric.

Complimentary tickets to The True Colors Tour at the Auditorium Theatre...

On the front row!

This is a concert featuring The Dresden Dolls, Deborah Harry, Erasure, Rosie O'Donnell, Margaret Cho and the woman who put it all together, Cyndi Lauper.

The lovely Bea went with me and the evening was so incredible that I can't possibly describe it in just one post. So I'm breaking it down piece by piece.

First up, a band I knew nothing about but am now slightly obsessed with...

As the description says on their site...

Rock bands are pigeonholed into ever-increasingly minuscule sub-categorizations, but The Dresden Dolls continue to defy explanation and classification.

While some have called it theatrical rock, punk cabaret, manic-musical, neo-glam-torch,…eventually even the most clever and creative describers shrug and say: “You just have to hear it to believe it.”

I was late getting back downtown for the 6:00 p.m. start of the concert...

...thanks for nothing CTA - - Ron Huberman, you now owe me a blowjob... a SHIRTLESS blowjob... and yes, I will be asking you to flex your guns while you're down there...

...so, The Dresden Dolls had just started their set when Bea and I walked in. I wanted to load up on a cocktail before we took our seats, but Bea really wanted hear them and I am SO glad that we went right in.

We made it to our seats - - which were so "front row" that the first usher we talked to didn't even know where they were... yep, we were fuckin rock stars last night - - just in time to hear The Dresden Dolls' song COIN-OPERATED BOY.

Although there is an official video of the song, this live version is my favorite version of the song...

Why is it my favorite version? Well, I love Amanda Palmer on piano and vocals, but I have to tell you, after seeing him live and in person last night from the front friggin' row in a performance just like the one in the clip above...

Brian Viglione on drums and guitar is now DEFINITELY my New Imaginary Boyfriend.

He is every boy I ever fell in love with in late high school and early college - - slightly goth, slightly punk, cute as Hell, brilliantly bizarre and divinely decadent.

At one point last night, he was accompanying Amanda on the guitar on a Jacques Brel song wearing only boots and a pair of red boxer briefs.

Jacques Brel is alive and well in Brian Viglione and that boy is turning me the fuck ON!!!

Next up: True Colors 2 about Ms. Deborah Harry taking the stage. Her performance last night gave new meaning to the term, "cuckoo panties."

Bye bye, New Imaginary Boyfriend Brian. Have fun on the tour and when you speak of me - - and you will - - be kind...

...you naughty boy.

Grrrrr.....

I am incredibly jealous that you got to go, not to mention your choice seats.

I just wanted you to know that.

Dirk - I truly wish you could have been with me! It was an amazing concert - - fun, inspiring, breathtaking - - and a little crazy Debbie Harry thrown in for good measure. :)

Stephen,

Find the songs "Half Jack" "Mandy Goes to Med School" and "Truce" they are my favs. Also, find the video on youtube of Dresden Dolls Vs. Panic! At the Disco, it's funny. I have never had more fun in my life, we are BFF with Cindy Lauper!!I can't wait until she gives us a ride to the mall in her Laup-mobile!

Completely off-topic, but have you ever seen this?

Bea - The Laup-mobile?!? What is she, a Batman villan now?!?! :)

Hey... that's not a bad idea...

Cyndi Lauper would make an EXCELLENT Harley Quinn.

My favorite Lauper moment, from "Vibes," when she's just had a fight with Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Falk asks if his tie looks OK.

Cyndi: OH, WHO GIVES A SHIT?!

Aaron - Cyndi has a lyrical way with the English language, doesn't she? :)
