On Friday, I feel in love with a friendly debate that started in the comments section in my post about Paula Deen's new book, IT AIN'T ALL ABOUT THE COOKIN'.

I was talking about meeting some fabulously kooky women at THE LADY & SONS restaurant when I ate there a few years ago and then I wrote...

As Julia Sugarbaker said on an episode of DESIGNING WOMEN, "In the South, we don't ask if you have crazy people in your family, we ask which side their on!"

A short while later "Lance's Friend" lovingly corrected me with this comment...

I think the Julia Sugarbaker quote is "In the south, we don't hide our crazy people in back bedrooms, we bring them out and show them off to everybody."

But "Lance's Friend" and I were quickly provided with the actual quote from the uber-hip and super-smart Aaron when he wrote...

Actually, I think she said both:

JULIA: "Here in the South, we don't hide our crazy people in the attic, we bring 'em right on down to the front room and show 'em off. You see, Phyllis, nobody in the South ever asks IF you have crazy people in your family. They just ask WHICH SIDE they're on."

Phyllis: "Oh? And which side are YOURS on, Ms. Sugarbaker?"

JULIA (without missing a beat): Both.

As you can see from this clip, Aaron was right on the money!

I can't tell you how happy and thrilled I am to find "my people" - - those beautiful souls who live and love DESIGNING WOMEN and all things Sugarbaker!

You're a doll...thanks for the kind words. I always did love me some Sugarbakers! (Except Alison, of course--but even SHE'S fun to watch in retrospect. I was too angry at Republicans at the time to enjoy her, but even the people at Morehead State didn't like her. I felt much better knowing that.)

Aaron - I absolutely agree. The only time I was an Alison fan was the episode where she tells Julia that her boyfriend is gay by saying something like, "He was wearing a Lacoste. He knows what a peplum is. In a 30 second conversation, he worked in Ida Lupino!!!"

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Lance's Friend - I wish I had "celebrity" to offer. At this point in my life, all I have to offer are piles of comic books, some vintage Loretta Lynn albums and my own little corner of cyberspace.

P.S. I spoke to Lance today! It was so great to hear from him!
