D&G: WTF?!?

Jockohomo posted this pic on his blog yesterday and needless to say, it caught my eye...

...yeah, it's hot and all...

...ok, ok... as we say in the gay community, it's "Fuckin' Hot!"...

...but what the Hell is going on in this picture?!?!

It reminds me of another pic I posted recently of Reb Brown from that spectacular motion picture, YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE...

Except, there are subtle differences.

Reb is at least wearing SOMETHING in his picture. Granted, all he has on is a prototype of the "Beastmaster" loincloth and some hairy Ugg boots, but still - - it's SOMETHING!

The guy in the D&G ad isn't even wearing a smile.

And while we're at it, Mr. Dolce & Gabbana isn't even strapped down to that chair- table- thingy. He's just laying there. Looking bored by it all.

God, I hate pushy bottoms. (Not a word, Aaron. Not a word.)

And what IS that chair-table-thingy the blithely bored bottom is perched upon? Is it some sort of lounging crucifix? What is this - - a fucking Madonna concert?!?!?

And last but certainly not least, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY SELLING, ANYWAY?

I guess they're selling jeans. Jeans that retail for approximately the same amount of money that my parents spent on their first house.

Or maybe they're selling those snappy leather flip-flops sported by the man on the left whose abs, apparently, are also used by Rachel Ray to grate cheese.

Or maybe they're selling those huge-assed, retina-burning examining room spotlights they have hung throughout the room...

"Strong enough for an air raid.
Made for your living room!"

Whatever the Hell they're selling, and whatever the Hell they're saying with this ad, turns me from "sexed up" to "weirded out" in milliseconds.

Which is odd, because that's the same reaction I had every time I saw my ex naked. And believe me, his abs could NOT grate cheese. His abs might have looked like cottage cheese, but that's about as close as it got.

A link from Jockohomo's posting took me to Modellaunch which informed me that certain European governments have been protesting recent D&G ads that they believe to be "violent and degrading to women."

Well, if the ad below isn't violent and degrading to women, I'm not quite sure what is.

Question for Anyone at Dolce & Gabbana: What does rape have to do with couture?

This ad doesn't weird me out. It pisses me off. It's disgusting. Who the fuck approved an ad like this anyway?

I admit beforehand that I'm stealing this thought from Dixie Carter's Julia Sugarbaker, but if that ad featured a black man being held down by five white men, there would be rioting in the streets. Why is it ok if it's a woman being held down?

It's not ok. It's just disgusting.

I enjoy your homo-eroticism, D&G, but your treatment of women, for lack of a better word, sucks. Shape up or fuck off.

I must admit that before this post I may have heard of Dolce & Gabbana but never payed attention. I'm about as high fashion as tube socks. Now I'm glad that I didn't.

What in the hell was the person who came up with that ad thinking? And it got PRINTED!?! I am so incensed I am almost numb with shock.

Only "pushy bottoms" use phrases like "not a word."

C'mon, Rader. Don't bait a bait-er. You will lose your wind-machine every time.

Aaron - I am so "not" pushy. I've been with pushy bottoms. I've dated pushy bottoms...

Oh no. Maybe I AM a pushy bottom. Maybe that's what wrong with my relationships. I mean, two negatives multiply to make a positive, but two bottoms do nothing but bury their faces in pillows, hoping that a wondering UFO will burst with aliens carrying anal probes.

Oh, and in my fantasy, the aliens are hung, as well.

A boy can dream, can't he?

Whooo! My first visit here, and certainly not my last.

I could say, "Some of my best friends are gay," but how stupid would that be? Let me say instead that I - heterosexual wizened wizard - was once given a trio of tongue condoms as an opening night gift by a guy of your persuasion. Of course, that's another story. Hell, I don't even know what a pushy bottom is, so maybe I am one.

Anyway, she said, back to your post. Yeah, it is very friggin' maddening the way women are portrayed - and portray themselves - these days. Didn't we fix at least some of that back in the sixties?

So I sure won't be buying anything Dolce & Gabbana are selling. (They aren't in the LLBean catalog, are they??)

Wizened Wizard - Thank you for visiting my blog!

And you can absolutely say, "Some of my best friends are gay" on this blog. Hell, you can say whatever you like on this blog. We ain't afraid of words here!

Well to be honest, I am scared of two particular words put together: "President Cheney"

AAARRRRGGGGG!!!!!

Again, thanks for checking out my blog!!!

That last pic was shocking. Thank you for pointing it out- it's good to know there are other folks in the world that are disdgusted by that kind of crap!
(found you through whim)

Lizard Princess - Knowing Whim is sort of like having the key to winning that SIX DEGREES OF KEVIN BACON game - - she knows EVERYONE!!!

Thank you for checking out my blog. That last ad by D&G is incredibly shocking, I agree.

And what's even more shocking is the fact that this ad was actually thought up, pitched, designed and shot with everyone involved apparently thinking that a photo of a rape was perfectly acceptable, as long as it's clothed in a designer label.

Oh, my rant against this just won't stop. I will hold it back just long enought to thank you again for checking out my blog! Best wishes!

couldn't have said it better myself Mr. Rader! I'm so proud of you not only for the rant but also for working in references to Miss Ray as well as cheese.

khainajr - Thank you for the compliment and for recognizing my subtle inclusion of all things "Rachel Ray" and "cheese-based." Reading your blog is starting to rub off on me!

Pretty soon, I'll probably stop buying that aerosol spray-on cheese that goes so well with a saltine cracker.

If I had a dime for every society party at our house where mama served Cheez Whiz on Saltines, I'd be rich enough to have my own skyscraper downtown, a comb-over and a feud with Rosie.

Now, where's my Velveeta?

Michael - I know, I know. I get going sometimes and I just can't stop.

Usually when I "get going and I just can't stop," it involves pork rinds, but this ad really pissed me off.

And really? There are FOUR tops in the city of Chicago?

I hope you're not including that hunky bartender at Sidetrack... cause I porked him. I porked him GOOD!! :)

amen! it's not the first D&G ad that's demeaning to women. most of them are. i have no doubt that whoever their creative director is, the man has some issues. (and yes, i think it's a man. and no, i can't exactly tell you why. i just KNOW!)
love your blog. the part about 2D crushes was great. i've always wondered about that concept since it's never happened to me, but i know quite a few people who have a similar crush.
peace.

Lisa - I just visited your blog and I love your blog right back!!! Thanks for linking to my blog on your's! I really appreciate the positive reinforcement to keep writing.

And you're SO right - - D&G's creative director is male... I'm absolutely certain of that fact... and the fact that he's an asshole!

Thank you again!!
