For those of you who asked how today's first preview of Aladdin went, let me just say this...
There's a school of thought shared by certain theatre people - - myself included - - that bad previews result in truly incredible opening night performances.
It's superstition, plain and simple, but there's something to the fact that, when many things go badly in previews, the cast is hyper-aware and focused on opening night.
By this logic - - bad preview = great opening night - - the opening performance of this show will change theatre as we know it.
Actually, it probably WILL change theatre as we know it. Not necessarily in a good way. But theatre will be changed, nevertheless.
I mean, Carrie can't stay the worst production of a musical for an eternity, now can it?

Does that mean the caftan didn't fit?
mrpeenee - You got it. It was so big that I tripped over it and fell down backstage. I'm not kidding. And screamed "Owwww!!!" into my body mic. Not kidding. At all.
oh man, I really hope it shapes up before opening!
xoxo
It will be OK, it will all be OK. The wardrobe lady can fix your caftan. No matter how badly things go, you still get to show YOUR navel! (Well, if'n you want to, that is--and we hope you do!)
:-)
Awww, Stephen, sweetie....
It'll improve, right? Everyone was just overly nervous. It WILL be better!
I'm sure the kids loved it though, right?
HUGS...
Oh my God, and can't hardly wait to see this.......
Perhaps the show is just "a diamond... in the rough."
You'll probably still shine. Seriously, you get the best songs and you don't have to kiss a lousy princess.
All you can do is your job sweetie. When it's on, it's on, and when it's not flowing, there's no worse place to be on earth, is there?
in moments like this i think of the best direction any one gave me.
Ronnie Mcintyre Fender once said to me afetr a most horrible night of rehearsal "its like your one the titanic forever! So, go trip someone on stage to lighten the load!"
I am not laughing. Nope. NOT laughing.
It'll get better, I'm sure. HUG
